The problem

Fulfillment errors are rarely knowledge failures. The worker knows the procedure. The error happens when a unit looks fine but isn't, when the right label is one of several on the carton, or when filing an exception takes longer than just shipping it. Training that explains the policy doesn't change what happens at the station.

What I built

A browser-based simulation where the learner processes a real order end to end: pull a packaged unit from the rack, read its ID label, scan the correct one, judge whether the unit is ready to ship or has to be held, complete the exception record, and print the shipping label.

The whole thing is keyboard accessible. The scanning interaction — the piece most likely to end up mouse-only — works by tabbing into the work area, aiming with the arrow keys, and pressing Enter to scan.

How it assesses

The learner runs the process twice. The first order is coached, with prompts at each decision point. The second one isn't: no coaching, same process, no scaffolding. The simulation then produces a performance record.

That structure comes from clinical competency assessment. Guided practice tells you someone can follow instructions. An uncoached repetition tells you whether they can do the job — which is the only thing a performance record should be measuring.
