The proposal for the Big Orange Project was developed using the ADDIE model, which includes five phases: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The evaluation framework is based on Kirkpatrick's four levels: reaction, learning, behavior, and results. When assessing the instructional design proposal, key factors included clarity, feasibility, alignment with organizational needs, and practicality. This approach ensured that the proposal was well-reasoned, achievable, and effectively addressed the intended learning outcomes. The projects background needs and the analysis of the learner, context, and content for this project were created in collaboration with a classmate who was also the Subject Matter Expert (SME).

AECT Standards and Alignment

Standard 1: Content Knowledge (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.5) applied the ADDIE model, Gagne, Gestalt, Keller, Mayer, and Sweller ID design principles/theories, knowledge in technology selection for a pracitical learning experience.

Standard 2: Content Pedagogy (2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5) applied and implemented appropriate technologies with assessment and managed processes to provide flexible and diverse learning instruction.

Standard 3: Learning Environment (3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.5, 3.6) applied Bloom's Taxonomy and Merrill's First Principles of Instruction to create a compelling and appropriate learning environment, using various learner assessments and feedback to improve learning performance.

Standard 4: Professional Knowledge and Skills (4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5) applied collaboration, leadership, reflection, evaluation, and inclusive considerations.

Standard 5: Research (5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4) applied theoretical foundations, methodology, evaluation, and professional conduct.

The proposal for "You Can Handle the Tooth," a professional homecare instruction program for residents of Shelby County, includes a prototype design for an online, asynchronous course developed over the semester for IT-532 (Online Learning Environments). It was implemented on the Canvas platform and consists of four modules featuring interactive assignments, quizzes, and activities. Learners engage with the content throughout the course through text, images, videos, and interactive simulations. The framework is based on a learner-centered approach. It utilizes the iterative, systematic, and systemic ADDIE instructional design and development process to create a prototype on the learning management system (LMS). To provide a hands-on, real-world experience in building effective online instruction grounded in theory and research.
