GOAL STATEMENT
To pursue a career as an instructional designer within a university or corporate environment where I can effectively utilize innovative technologies and strategies to produce meaningful, accessible, and impactful learning experiences. My journey during my master’s degree program at the University of Tennessee significantly inspired me to enhance my technical skills and pedagogical approaches to better address the diverse needs of learners. I have over twenty years of experience providing instruction and developing curriculum for children, adolescents, and adults. My background includes roles as a registered dental hygienist, a K-12 student teacher, and a dental hygiene instructor. I intend to leverage the skills acquired through my education and professional experience to contribute to the instructional technology field.
This portfolio contains several of my projects, which I developed as part of my instructional technology coursework. For example, I created an instructional demonstration video on preparing homemade treats for dog owners. Additionally, I designed a training module for dental sealants, which serves as a highly accessible asynchronous training resource. This module includes engaging tutorial videos and static digital images that provide essential step-by-step guidance on correctly placing dental sealants.
Furthermore, I created a comprehensive whiteboard presentation on data security. That conveys significant concepts through digital images and text, supplemented by a relevant case study that enhances learners' understanding. I also developed an engaging webpage using the Wix platform, which showcases my academic evaluations and enables me to articulate the insights I have gained through a series of informative blog posts.
These blog entries incorporate captivating imagery, diagrams, and personally designed timelines enriched with GIFs and interactive elements for a more profound reader exploration. Each blog entry reflects my understanding of fundamental design principles, drawing inspiration from esteemed scholars such as Richard Mayer and David Merrill. Furthermore, it emphasizes the practical application of these theories in real-world contexts.
Ultimately, my objective as a designer is to adapt to the evolving needs of learners and maintain a learner-centered approach while aligning technological advancements with instructional best practices. This endeavor entails the application of established instructional design principles, including ADDIE, SAM, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Backward Design, the Dick and Carey Model, Mayer’s principles, Gagne’s framework, Kemp's approach, Kirkpatrick's evaluation model, and Sweller’s theories, among others. I am dedicated to continuously enhancing my skills and knowledge through ongoing professional development, enabling me to deliver designs that positively influence all learners.
